Spalted Tamarind Turning Squares
Tamarindus indica
Tamarind is a native of Africa and was introduced into Central and South America by Spanish and Portuguese colonists. The fruit is used for various dishes and medicines. The trees were cut and allowed to spalt on the forest floor. There may or may not be some small insect holes (the insects are dead). The spalting can be quite spectacular. These squares are partially air-dried.
