This beautiful member of the Rosewood family is getting scarce on the world's market. Traditionally used for decorative furniture bandings and inlays. When worked it has a delicate, sweet aroma. Takes a high polish.

Panama Rosewood
(Dalbergia sp.)

This is a previously undescribed Dalbergia (rosewood) specie from an obscure corner of Panama. Only one small, expensive log was available and we took a chance by buying it. The useable material was quite nice with beautiful color and grain and a sweet, aromatic scent. We dried and sawed some guitar backs and sides out of one billet and it has very nice tonal qualities. We also have some 1" and 2" lumber available. The supply is very limited of this rare rosewood.

Madagascar Rosewood
(Dalbergia sp.)

This is one of many Madagascar Rosewood species. The heartwood is light to dark purple in sharp contrast to the light colored sapwood. Like other rosewoods it has a pleasant, sweet smell.

Santos Rosewood /Bolivian Rosewood/Pau Ferro (Machaerium sp.) click on photo for close-up This wood has gained in popularity since the early 1990's when Brazilian Rosewood was designated an endangered species. Furniture manufacturers used it as a Brazilian Rosewood substitute but it stands on its own as an instrument tone wood. This Rosewood species has a reddish-brown to dark brown colored heartwood contrasting the almost white sapwood. The dust has a sweet odor. It is an excellent furniture/case works/jewelry box wood and even though it has a medium texture it does take a nice polish. We also offer it as a musical instrument wood (see guitar fingerboards and backs & sides elsewhere on the site). It has a very "crisp" tap tone with good sustain.

Another true rosewood. The wood is variegated with different shades of purple and darker stripes. The specific gravity is 1.2 so it is hard and heavy. Used for inlays and bandings, turnery, and fancy furniture accessories.
