Peroba Rosa
(Aspidosperma sp.)

Found throughout tropical America, mainly Brazil. This is a fairly hard and heavy wood with a fine texture. It has a light red to reddish-orange heartwood. It is easy to work, takes a nice polish, and is stable in service. Not common on the market. Kiln dried.

Figured Honey Mesquite
(Prosopis nigra)

A very few pieces of Mesquite are figured with what we call frog's-hair curl, a small, tight curl with as many as 12-15 curls per inch. Figured on the edge grain. A very stable wood. Air-dried.

Burly Bulgarian Mulberry
(Morus nigra)
Found in Asia and Europe this is medium sized tree with a stout trunk. It is probably best known for its leaves on which silkworms feed. The heartwood is yellow to reddish-yellow becoming a rich golden brown. Excellent for chair and furniture work.

This is a very hard and heavy wood. It oxidizes to a light to dark reddish-brown color with darker striping. It is stable in service, is fine-textured and takes a very fine polish. Some Brazilian Indian tribes roast and powder the seeds and the product is used as narcotic snuff.

Malaysian Blackwood
(Diospyros sp.)

The heartwood is dark, sometimes with black stripes or streaking and oftentimes with a greenish cast in sharp contrast to the white to straw colored sapwood. We import this in large cants up to 8 x 14” with lengths to 10 feet. The wood is hard and heavy and is capable of a fine, high polish. Excellent for turnery and precious woodworks such as musical instruments, boxes, jewelry, etc.
