We have begun cutting our burled logs of African Blackwood. Some of the burl clusters are quite spectacular with myriad tiny bird's-eyes silver-gray to gunmetal gray in color with a luster not found in many species this dense.The heartwood is purplish to brownish-black with dark gray streaks giving an overall impression of being black. Lustrous with an attractive inner chatoyance. Very hard, heavy, close-grained, and virtually free from pores.

Burly African Blackwood

Very hard, heavy, close-grained, and virtually free from pores. This board was cut from the middle of the log so it is fairly quartersawn on the faces with cluster burls along both edges.
